Cold front and warm front in a weather map

0:05      Snow day!!

0:06      Ohh! Archie what’s it?

0:09      Sorry, I’m a little excited for our random day off!!

0:13      I can’t believe there was a snow storm!! It just came out of nowhere!!

0:17      It just didn’t come from nowhere, a cold front moved in.

0:20      Haha!! What??

0:23      A cold front. A front is the boundary where two air masses crash. And weather like snow occurs. There are warm and cold fronts. I’ll demonstrate.

0:34      No no, just tell me

0:35      I’m not going to throw it at you, listen. You know what an air mass is, right?

0:40      Aaaa, a big mass of glove of air…?

0:43      A kind of. An air mass is a large body of air that has the same temperature and moisture level throughout. There are four different types of air masses in the United States. And each one carries its own temperature and an amount of moisture.

0:56      So, what are their names?

0:58      Well two are cold and two are warm. The two cold air masses are the maritime polar air mass and the continental polar air mass.

1:07      What about the two warm air masses?

1:09      The two warm air masses are called the maritime tropical air mass and the continental tropical air mass.

1:16      So which one can I think for the snow day?

1:19      It’s no!! Because one of the cold air mass is crashing with the warm one, and they make a cold front. You know that ball that I throw you? It exploded, right?

1:28      Yeah!! And it hurt

1:30      Well Sam, I think it’s in replay time. I see the ball is a cold air mass and you are a warm air mass when you both crash together a front was made. What it came first? Snow!!

1:43      Oh! It’s kind of coroo

1:45      yeah!!  This snow storm is resulted of a cold front. A cold front happens when a cold air mass pushes a warm air mass up. Big clouds called cumulous clouds are formed. When you see dark clouds like those, you can bet your for some heavy rain, thunderstorms or a snow storms like this.

2:04      What happen with a warm front?

2:06      A warm front happen when a warm air mass stretches over a cold air mass and slowly climbs on covering.

2:13      As the warm air mass passes over the cold air?

2:16      One thin stratus clouds stretch out across the sky.

2:20      A warm front is because the rain is not too but it’s like a mystery, not heavy storming like a cold front weather.

2:27      So, cold front means pretty crazy weather that can mean snow day! And a warm front just means may rain or snow but won’t be as intense. And an air mass is a large body of air that has the same temperature and moisture level. And there are four types of air masses in the US. Each one has its own characteristics. When two of these masses meet they form a boundary called front. It can be a warm front or a cold front, but either way, some kind of weather always happens on a front.

3:03      hey!! Ok, ok, ok. I deserved, it’s freezing now, I think I’m going to go in for a mug of chocolate.
