This is a Clilstore unit. You can .
A virtual Machine is a program which simulates (actually the correct verb to use in this context is "to emulate") a computer. In this exercise we are going to create a virtual machine and to install the LLiurex 15.05 Operative System on it. Thereby you will run a fully functional virtual computer in a screen of your computer, and you will be the administrator user in this virtual machine. Keep in mind that you are a simple "user" with no administrative privileges in your classroom computer, and this means that Lliurex won't allow you to perform any action that might damage your computer, but some of these actions are going to be needed in the next classes.
In the following picture you can see how looks like a virtual machine. It is a LLiurex running on a host computer window.
Use the file browser Nautilus (menu Lugares->carpeta personal) to check out if there is a file called lliurex-escriptori_amd64_1505_latest.iso in the \home\publico\ folder. This is the ISO LLiurex 15.05 install file, in its desktop version.
Run Oracle VirtualBox, selecting the menu Aplicaciones->Administración LLiurex->Oracle VirtualBox menu. VirtualBox is the program we will use to create and manage virtual machines.
Create a new virtual machine clicking on the button nuevo
Write a name for the new virtual machine, ( see the picture below, but don't name it LLiurex 14, name it LLiurex 15 instead). Write the type of operative system -linux-, and the subtype -Ubuntu 64 bits- as well. Then click on the next buttton
In the following window select 2Gb of memory for the virtual machine. Remember 1GB equals 1024 Mb
The virtual machine, the operative system you will install on it, and the programs and data must be saved in a virtual hard disk. Actually this is a file in which Virtualbox emulates a hard disk. Chose the option to create a new virtual disk
Select hard disk type vdi
Select dynamic reservation as well. This option means that even if the virtual hard disk is set to some 20GB size, the vdi file will take up just around 6Gb at the beginning (the size of the operative system after installation), and will grow when you install programs and enter more data to a maximum of 20Gb size
Finally, write a name for the vdi file, and set its maximum size to around 20gb, then click on crear.
Now the virtual machine has been created. You have a virtual computer ready to be turned on, and be displayed in a window. The virtual machine name must apear on the left panel, For the time being, your computer has no operative system. You must install LLiurex 15 on it in the following steps
Select the VM (virtual machine) in the panel on the left as shown in the picture. The right panel will show a report of the different hardware components of your VM.
We are going to change the amount of memory in the host system reserved for video in the VM. The default option (just 12 Mb) is clearly insufficient. Make a double click on the pantalla section.
Select a size of 128Mb and enable 3D acceleration
Our VM is useless, unless we install the operative system. If we turn it on (clicking on the button iniciar) it will show a message asking you to insert a boot DVD disk. Otherwise the computer won't boot (won't turn on). If we had the LLiurex install DVD we could install LLiurex now, but we don't have it. We have an ISO install file instead.
An ISO file is a file that contains an image of a DVD. This means all the file contents have been dumped into the file, turning it into a perfect copy of the DVD. We must mount the file \home\publico\lliurex-escriptori_amd64_1505_latest.iso (the LLiurex ISO) as it was a real DVD and install the Operative System from it. Select the almacenamiento section
Click on the DVD icon (in the place signaled by the red arrow in the image below), and then
Click on the icon signaled by the blue arrow in the image above to deploy the menu showed in the image below. Select seleccionar un archivo de disco virtual de CD/DVD. Then select the file \home\publico\lliurex-escriptori_amd64_1505_latest.iso
Click again on the button iniciar to turn on the VM. This time the VM boots using the Iso install file an the installation of LLiurex starsts
Select a language (Spanish, English or Valencian) and click on the button instala lliurex.
Make sure that the following window shows all the LLiurex installation requirements are met. Enable the option Descargar actualizaciones y software de terceros
