Introduction to tables



Tables organize data into rows and columns. To create a table select the menu Inserta|tabla (or press Ctrl+F12).

 

The options are shown below:

There's also possible to create a table clicking on the button table from the main tool bar, shown below in the image below.









ACTIVITY 1 COUNTRIES TABLE

  1. Open your personal template and save it as paisos.odt using File | save as . Remember, after this action, to save the file you must use File | save. Never use File | save as or the versions information will be lost

  2. Insert a 3 columns , 10 rows in the table using:.

    • Select tabla|Insertar|tabla

    • Select the following settings:

      • Columns: 3

      • Rows: 10

      • Header: on

      • Repeat header:on, for the first 1 rows

      • Don't divide the table:off

      • Borders: on

    • Click in the button Aceptar.

 

3. Input the table data: you have to fill in your  table  using the data shown below. First write and format the columns header (Pais-Capital-Continent) in your table. Then choose randomly 9 rows from the table below and write them in your table. Select at least a country from every continent.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    • Move the cursor over the line between columns until it change to this icon

 

 

 

 

 

Format a table



Using the menu tabla you can modify an existing table. You can add/delete columns and rows, change the width/height, etc. Some of these actions can be done using the contextual menu too, or using the buttons in the table tool bar as show in the pictures below.

Setting borders and background colors



The easiest way to change the border lines format is using the icons in the table tools bar. This bar appears at the bottom of the window when you place the cursor in a table






 





ACTIVIDAD CAPITALES COLOR

 

Open capitals.odt. Save it as capitales_color.odt.

 

Change the background color in the different rows according to this list

 



 

Save a version of your document using File | version, and clicking later the button save version

 

Draw the cell border lines.

Save a version of your document using File | version, and clicking later the button save version

Add a column Mamiferos marinos after the column Mamíferos

 

 




 

Add a new first row, placing the cursor in the first row and selecting Tabla | Inserta |Filas |antes

In the first row Merge the cells 1 and 2 and the cells 3 and 4

Split in two the cell “Atún”, to write Atún blanco and Atún rojo

Format the table

 

Align to the center the text in the cells (select all the cells and click on the button alineacion al centro in the main toolbar

 

Apply a font (type of letter) of your choice

 

Paint the cells in color. Paint the header in a darker color

 

The header text must be set in bold letters(negrita)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Save a version of your document using File | version, and clicking later the button save version

 

Save the document using File | save, or the save button in the tool bar. Never use File | save as otherwise the versions information will be lost
