After weeks of speculations, Slovenian Tina Maze has finally announced her plans for the 2015/16 season in a letter posted on her online channels.

The Olympic, World, and 2013 overall World Cup champion won’t be getting ready for the upcoming season but will be taking a year off to evaluate her next steps.

Below is Maze’s original message:

Dear sport friends and my fans,

As I did not officially announce my plans for the future yet, I thought it would be the right time to write you this message.

After 16 long and successful seasons, practicing all disciplines, I feel that my body and my mind need a longer rest than usual. I will allow myself a one year break before taking any further decision.

I will use this opportunity to finish my degree and give some of my time for marketing and communication activities to my partners Stöckli, Milka, Fila, Alpina Watches, Feel Slovenia, Zlatarna Celje and other projects that I have in mind.

I would like here to sincerely thank you for your support all these years and I hope that you understand and respect my decision.

I will let you know about the future developments and wish you a nice summer

Sincerely Yours,

Tina

During her career so far Maze has won four Olympic medals (2x gold, 2x silver), nine World Championships ones (4x gold, 5x silver) and has earned a total of 81 World Cup podiums, including 26 victories.  Maze also currently holds the record of highest number of World Cup points scored in a single season as in 2013 she won the Overall after breaking Hermann Maier’s previous record of 2,000 points by finishing with 2,414.

The FIS Family wishes Tina all the best in her “gap year” and hopes this is just a see you later and not yet a goodbye.
