FILM AND SERIES MUSIC

You are welcome to this introductory lesson of film and series music. Down below, carry out the following five activities to improve your understanding about film and series music. You can download and print a sheet of paper with these activities (clic HERE) or you can hand in by email.

Activity 1. Watch on computer videos 1, 2 and 3.

Activity 2. Talk in group of 3-4 students about these questions. Write down a common answer in a open office or word document and sent it to your teacher.

What is the effect of music in these movies? Do you think music changes the experience of watching them?

Film music evolves within the scene. Generally, the more music intensifies, the more the action is close. It is clearly the case of one of the films you have watched on. Can you say which one and how the music evolves?

Do you think including music in films and series is worthy? How much would your favorite movies or series change without music?

There are two main ways of including music in films and series. On the one hand, you can provide music as a background for the action and dialogues. On the other hand, you can make a musical intermezzo (the action evolves around a character’s song). Classify the three movies you have just watched in these two categories.

Activity 3. Watch on the intro music video and the score of Games of Thrones (video 1, activity 3). It will be played by the whole class.
