Film and Series Music - 2

FILM AND SERIES MUSIC 2

A DETAILED 2-hour CLIL MODULE

Important remarks:

  1. Only some activities and materials are showed. For a complete description, look at the original pdf.
  2. There are five previous activities in the Clisitore unit "FILM AND SERIES MUSIC" that are not showed. They are not part of the "2-hour CLIL module".
  3. All the materials are made by Francisco Aledo, except for youtube videos and the English linkers and connectors of activity 11.

Activity 6. Look at the next Prezi presentation. You can see the videos if you click them on.

Activity 7. With regard to the previous Prezi presentation, classify the following extracts of film and series music in A) Diagetic or non-diagetic and B) Silent film, 1930s-1940s film or 1950s-up to present films. You don't need to watch the whole video, about 20 seconds are enough to know the information you look for. Write the answers in your exercise notebook.

 8. In groups of 3-4 students, choose only ONE of the following current film and series musical composers: John Willems (1932), Hans Zimmer (1957) or James Horner (1953). After that you have to:

  1. Debate about why you have chosen this composer.
  2. Point out five remarkable characteristics (if he usually works for fictions films, if he employs electronic or classic music, etc.)
  3. Make a list of his film and series compositions (you have to name, at least, 10 names or movies in which he worked)
  4. Write down this information in your exercise notebook.

9. Depending on the composer that you have chosen before, perform one of the songs that you have on the upper side of the screen in green.

 10. Read the first four paragraphs of Activity 10 (activity 10 Text - Bill Brown) and answer the questions (click on activity 10 - Hot potatoes)

11. Write a short commentary (100-150 words) about your favourite intro music series. You must take account of:

  1. Text structure: An introduction, 1-2 development paragraphs, a conclusion. The introduction presents the topic, the development paragraphs are used to present your opinion and data, the conclusion summarizes the commentary.
  2. Specific musical vocabulary: try to add specific words of this subject like staff, score, diagetic music, etc.
  3. Use connectors to structure your text (look at them clicking on "activity 11: English linkers and connectors").
  4. Choose a main topic for your commentary and develop it.
