TEACHING UNIT: URBAN LANDSCAPE

This Unit  is developed in 5 activities, during 7 sessions. Iam going to perform the Activity one: Introductory amd motivation activity.

This activity has as an aim to introduce the content of the Unit and stimulate the students interest about the matter.

The teacher will start the session with a brief introduction to the subject and after he/she will project some images of cities landscapes like: New York, Chicago, Dubai, London, Shangai.... These images will be displayed on whiteboard or screen using a projector. The aim of this exposition will be to motivate the students.After that, the teacher will ask many questions to encourage the participation and observe the prior knowledge of the class about urban planning and how the cities are planned and designed.

 After the images displayed professor will ask questions like these:

-What do you think about these images that you have just seen ?

-Do you think the cities grow freely or are they previously planned?

-Who is the professional dedicated to plan the cities?

-What is the discipline dedicates to plan the city development?

-Had you ever thought that almost everythingthat surround us: strrets, avenues, parks and squares, imply a prior process of planning and design?

-What do you think about the planning of your city?

-Do you know properly Valencia: downtonwn area, widenings?

-Do you know how our city has grown?

-Think about your neighbourhood, is there an urban public space that you really apreciate? another taht you hate?

 

AIMS OF THE ACTIVITY 

-To motivate the students to be interested and want to learn more about the city planning.

-To observe the level of prior knowledge of the subject that the class has.

-To motivate the communicative exchange in the classroom.

-To develop students con fidence in their hability to express themselves orally.

 

TIME NEEDED: 15'

 

LANGUAGE LEARNING:

This debate will be completely oral, without any kind of hepl as labels or worksheets. It is essential to create an environment in wich students feel relaxed and self confident. The tutor's role will consist on helping the students to express their ideas, correcting them in a soft way, renegotiating the form and the meaning of the expressions if it is necessary, but prevailing the fluency of the speaking.

 

ASSESSMENT:

The teacher will observe the use of English made by the students and assess their oral participation, the fluency of their speaking and the risks taken in their answers( if the students try to deduce unknown words, if they use words in spanish  when they do not know the terms in English.
