Origin of the universe

Activity 5 

Read carefully -and the help of the teacher- the following text:

As you have already seen, there have been a lot of different models that have been created to explain the conformation of our solar system. Generally, we could say that scientists have proposed a model that agrees with some observations made before and it is considered valid until new observations are found as contradictory against this model. In that moment, a new model that takes into account the new information must be proposed. It must be more specific but also general (That is the way science works).

This process is exactly the same for the explanation about what is the origin of our universe. A lot of theories have been proposed in this field. Almost every culture have had one! Although this explanations were basically very similar: there is a god, usually living in the sky, and he/her has been the creator of everything that we see or feel. He/she has a magnificient power that allows him/her to create everything. For intansce, in Europe, Christians have thought for thousand years that the god that it is described in the Bible was the creator of the world and also the universe. 

This book, the Bible, together with the theories of Aristotle has been the basis of the main part of human knowlegde since the time of the Ancient Greek. All explanations to facts that were unknown, as the one we are studying right now, the origin of the universe, were explained there and they were taken as hallowed. People who doubted about them, were marked and followed because they were considered heretic.

But what happened when the observations made by scientists gainsaid the Bible?

At the end, if the observation data were right and the models proposed have explained better the fact studied, the new model have been taken seriously and the old ones have been forgotten.

In the case, the origin of the universe, it has been very difficult to obtain information about what happened when the universe begin to exist. Think about that nobody has been there and that we must elaborate our theories just with data we obtain today. Therefore, for a lot of years, although the Bible was already abandoned as a source of knowlegde for scientists, there was not a nother coherent theory that describe, at least, the first moments of the universe. But since the seventies of the last century, the situations has been absolutely different. A new theory was proposed and all the data we have found since there, agrees with the model. It is called Big Bang. Look at the next video and try to answer the next questions.
