ANCIENT GREEK ART IV: Sculpture

ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE SCULPTURE OF ANCIENT GREECE

Picture 4. The Archer sculpture on left reconstruction with the original polychromy and on the left the original sculpture that lost the colours.

Activity 1. In 3 groups, determined by the teacher, you will be assigned a sculptural work of the classical Greece of any of the artistic periods within that historical moment, and you will have to perform an artistic analysis. You should follow the document ''Tips for making a good historical sculpture analysis'', and perform the activity (artistic comment) that will be corrected in the last 20 of the lesson. The teacher will designate to your group one of the most representative works of Greek sculpture to see among the following:

- Kouros of Annavissos and Peplos Kore. VI BC.
- Doryphoros. V BC.
- Laocoön and his sons. III-II BC.

You can use the internet with your tablets to look up for information, always taking into account the veracity of the site you're consulting, but it is essential to use and read the '' Lesson 4 dossier '', with all the contents of this part of the unit and everything necessary to complete the analysis correctly. So, we can use the internet to corroborate any data and look up together for pictures and specific things; and you can also check the books that are on the teacher's desk, books of the geography and history department.

Activity 2. Following the correction document, and lead by the instructions of the teacher and tips made to you, correct individually the errors on your analysis or add additional information to make your comment an even better essay. Make that corrections in red, and give your comment to the teacher at the end of the lesson specifying the note you think you deserve and explaining why. Try to clear up how you have organized your comment, how and where you looked up for the information, what order have you followed, and how you would do it if it was oral and you were a tourist guide in a visit to a museum or a historical complex. Justify your answer.
