Food labels

We are what we eat. Many of the foods we consume have labels on them. How do we make sense of this information? 

You are going to search for information about the nutritional values and ingredients of the food you eat.

 

Task I

Using the guide under the link here

you will have to find out how to use the nutrition facts label.

In your notebook record information about the parts of the food label and what they mean.

 

Task 2

 

Watch a video summing up the most important things to be taken into account when interpreting food labels here:

and then search for 3 different food labels and discuss in pairs the content of it.

Task 4

Work in groups and create a healthy menu that consists of 3 snack choices, 3 dinner choices and 3 dessert choices. You will provide all nutritional information [calories, total fat, sodium, total carbohydrates, sugars, protein, vitamins] for all foods on the menu. Prepare a presentation about it.

 

Once you finish, you will have learned the different groups of food, knowing how to choose the right food by simply looking at the food label and also create a balanced menu.
